The project

Luxury villas in Las Terrenas share a common requirement: the interior design is part of the product itself. A wall-mounted AC unit or a standard ceiling cassette that breaks the plane of a carefully designed ceiling is not an acceptable outcome for a space built at that level of finish.

Mecatecnia executed two complementary systems in these villas that solve this problem completely. The first: slot-type linear diffusers perfectly flush-mounted into the finished ceiling surface — no visible frame, no interruption to the ceiling plane — delivering uniform conditioned air along the room perimeter. The second: a full duct system with multiple high-efficiency condensing units on the villa rooftops, distributing conditioned air to all areas of the floor plan through insulated galvanized ductwork.

What was installed

  • Invisible slot diffusers integrated into the finished ceiling — linear grilles flush with the ceiling surface, indistinguishable from the finish once installed. Air distribution runs along the room perimeter with no visible equipment in the space.
  • Insulated galvanized duct system — galvanized ducts with thermal insulation to minimize energy losses between the air handling unit and the distribution points. Branch layout was defined from the architectural drawings of each villa.
  • Rooftop condensing units — high-efficiency units installed on the villa roof, positioned outside the sightlines of all occupied and outdoor living spaces. Placement was selected to minimize perceived noise inside the villas.

What this demonstrates

This project is the most direct reference for what Mecatecnia delivers when the requirement is not simply to cool effectively, but to cool without the system being perceived at all. Integrating slot diffusers flush into a finished ceiling requires a precision level in installation and finishing that is not standard across most HVAC providers. The outcome is a space where the thermal comfort exists and the system producing it does not.

Questions that typically come up after seeing this project

Can invisible slot diffusers be installed in a villa or house that is already finished? Yes, though it is more precise work than an in-construction installation. It requires opening the ceiling at the diffuser and duct locations, running the duct through the ceiling void and closing with the same material and finish as the original ceiling. The final result is identical. The work requires a finishing carpenter coordinated with the HVAC team — Mecatecnia manages this as part of the project scope.

Does this duct system require different maintenance from a conventional split? Maintenance includes duct inspection, air handling unit service and diffuser condition check. Recommended frequency in a tropical climate like Samaná's is every six months. The advantage of the rooftop condenser arrangement is easy equipment access without any intervention in the interior finished spaces.

Can you replicate this system in villa or residential projects in Santo Domingo? Yes. The invisible slot diffuser and duct system is applicable to any property where interior design is a priority. We have executed it in Las Terrenas and are fully equipped to apply it in high-standard residential projects in the National District and other regions.
